9th - 10th April BHASS_EXPLORE project Extreme Coastal Clearance Weekend!

The next #greensockmovement BHASS_EXPLORE project Extreme Coastal Clearance Weekend between Brighton marina and Ovingdean will take place over the weekend of the 9th and 10th of April..... anyone and everyone is welcome to come and help in any capacity as we continue to permanently remove tonnes of decaying plastic and synthetic materials from the 'sea defence' boulders beneath the undercliff walk.... these fishing industry and general shipping debris ropes and netting and miscellaneous objects have been accumulating on this 2km stretch of coastline for the past 4 decades and are slowly breaking down and returning to the seas to cause harm to the marine life and birds we share the oceans with... so if you have an hour or two and share our interests and concerns about the environment please consider joining us as the tides go out and get stuck in with a great bunch of environmentally conscious individuals and help remove as much of these nasty harmful materials as possible from a challenging location..... sharp serrated edged knives and hacksaws are the tools of choice and bolt croppers also come in handy to help remove entangled metal lobster pots etc.... you never know what you are going to find trapped within these large granite rocks! It is difficult and hard work in a dangerous environment but it isso rewarding to remove hundreds of kilos each time we visit this location and over the past eight months great volunteers have removed over well over 3 tonnes of these materials .... but there is still so much more to do... it is estimated that a further 8 tonnes of marine debris remain and it is our intention to both remove as much as we possibly can over the weekend and to showcase just what is in our seas.... so come on all the local to Brighton environmentalists.... let's all work TOGETHER to make a difference and help clear up all this shameful harvest from our 21st century lives and inability to use and dispose of plastic objects sustainably.... people can help with this remarkable environmental effort on many ways.... either by joining us on and in amoungst the rocks cutting materials free... or by carrying the freed materials back to the collection points on the slipway ramps..... or by separating and sorting the gathered materials into various recycling categories.... or by documenting the work with photography and video..... or by getting creative with some of these colourful plastics and joining the #greensockmovement 'Art from Trash' collective and making something interesting from these nasty materials.... or just come down and lend some support and say 'hello' ! All are welcome to join us at any stage over the weekend.... we will be on the middle of the three slipway ramps on Saturday the 9th from 8.ooam until sunset and on the slipway ramp nearest Brighton marina on Sunday from 9.ooam till late.... all we need is fair weather and good people with positive energy and we can achieve so much! This is a purely voluntary effort carried out entirely at our own risk but we all work TOGETHER to help and support eachother and to make this environmental experience FUN... so come and join us if you can... please share this message with any groups or individuals who share our concerns about the environment and to find out more about our project and environmental activities please visit our website.... bhassexplore.com or the BHASSEXPLORE project Facebook page.... many thanks for reading! Please share!
