The BHASSEXPLORE Challenge

BHASSEXPLORE is raising funds via donations to help in its endeavours to remove tonnes of plastic trash from the remote, beautifully iconic, ruggedly rocky, six mile coastline beneath the majestic chalk cliffs between Eastbourne and Cuckmere Haven ... BHASSEXPLORE has already been instrumental in the removal of approximately a tonne of bagged plastic and synthetic materials from Cow Gap this Spring and has worked hard over the summer to bag a further two tonnes of decaying plastics and synthetics from the stunningly beautiful location just west of the Eastbourne lighthouse... the landmark that everbody loves, set in front of the towering pure white cliffs.

This build up of societies waste has accumulated there over the past forty plus years and has been unable to get past the cliff fall that blocks its passage further along the coast, but that is now decaying back into the marine environment due to constant UV, salt water pounding and wind and was a problem that had to be tackled now.... BHASSEXPLORE is a fledgling collective and cooperative of environmentally concerned individuals who have banded together, combining their myriad of skills and abilities with the aim of removing at least 80% of the shameful garbage that pollutes this incredible and sensitive environment over the next three years and to prevent its further build up from occurring ever again...

BHASSEXPLORE estimates that the three tonnes already bagged represents approximately 15% of this 80% target... do the maths... that leaves about another 17 tonnes to go... mainly rotting nylon ropes and netting, entangled in the rocks, rubber tyre strips and other plastics used in the manufacture of lobster pots, all manner of plastic drums and containers in various conditions and state of decay, similarly, all manner of marker buoys and flotation devices and their attachments, plastic and polystyrene trays, fishing tackle and tangled, nylon lines, plastic bottles and wrappings of all descriptions, and literally millions of pieces of polystyrene and foam rubber... from larger pieces right down to individual beads...

Alongside all this disgraceful flotsam and jetsom that should not be there, that does not belong there, that this environment does not deserve to be littered with, in such shocking ammounts, there are more unusual objects such as large car parts, wheels and tyres , bits of fibreglass boats and other unidentified anomalies... BHASSEXPLORE is focused on the removal of the plastic and synthetic materials as these pose the greatest environmental dangers to the region and wider seas....

BHASSEXPLORE is also making video records of our efforts and documenting its progress... with the aim of bringing in fresh volunteers to take up the mantle of protecting this unique stretch of coast and preventing fresh deposits of plastic from building up to the same levels ever again... BHASSEXPLORE will demonstrate how this can be done safely, continuously and conscientiously thus getting the worse of these materials away from the location before they become entangled and broken down further... BHASSEXPLORE is establishing good contacts and links with the local councils, the Marine Voluntary Service , local businesses, organisations and agencies as well as with individuals who share our interests and concerns about the environment and this coastline in respect to help with achieving its goals and aims... BHASSEXPLORE hopes to establish a strong and determined task force, going forwards, to protect this regions incredible coastline and also to demonstrate how a collective and cooperative can be established and sustained to tackle any serious problem, be it environmental or social, or any issue that presses on the fairness and justice our environment and individuals deserve... BHASSEXPLORE s happy to affiliate with any other organisation with similar aspirations...

BHASSEXPLORE operates a fully inclusive policy where all humans of all abilities and skills are welcome to participate and assist in its efforts in a way that they feel comfortable with and BHASSEXPLORE can not tolerate any form of discrimination in any way, shape or form... BHASSEXPLORE operates in an inclusive environment of positive energies and goodwill, with its focus directed firmly on its mission and success in safely removing the human made trash from the natural environment and it welcomes all positive and appropriate help and assistance it can get from all sources...

BHASSEXPLORE will always be grateful for any help and assistance it receives, freely given , to aid in its endeavours to complete this extremely difficult and arduous, but richly rewarding task..... the work BHASSEXPLORE does now will benefit the environment well into the future for hundreds, if not thousands of years... as it prevents these artificial materials from breaking down ever further and returning back into the oceans, with all the well documented consequences that provokes... BHASSEXPLORE is committed to developing safe operating practices for all who enter this intriguing zone, be it for leisure purposes, educational enquiry, geological investigations and study, environmental endeavours or for any other purpose, with a high level of emphasis of awareness of all the hazards, dangers and conditions that exist in this wild and remote region... there is no signal nor immediate help or assistance available should any accident, incident or situation arise, and so all attention and precautions should be taken to prevent the need to call out the coast guards and other emergency services whilst visiting this challenging and rugged territory ...

BHASSEXPLORE hopes to develop its website, bhassexplore.com , to cover all aspects of the dangers and precautions fundamental to the safe enjoyment of its riches and beauty.. good knowledge of the tides and weather conditions are essential in order to prevent getting cut off, and trapped by the many pinch points at high water, the terrain under foot is also extremely uneven and slipping in almost 80% of the six mile coastline and great caution is required to navigate it safely in stout, grippy footwear, along with good concentration levels, stamina and agility capabilities...this region draws people in with its fascinating scenery and points of inspiring interest and they are often oblivious to its perils.... until they arise... and fatigue, hunger, thirst, difficult conditions underfoot, distance, inadequate provision and clothing, inquiries and lack of local knowledge can make very difficult bedfellows and lead to awful situations developing... as the frequently do in this area...so please take heed and take every precaution before exploring at any depth this area of unique beauty and fascinating geological and marine areas... bhassexplore.com also aims to develop a free to use resource of all aspects of environmental and educational aspects of this region, there is so much to reveal, discuss and learn from this kingdom... all authoritative information and links to other educational studies concerned with the area will be compiled for anyone to access as and when they wish... like an encyclopedia purely compiled for this six mile coastline....

BHASSEXPLORE will welcome any offers of help with this and all of its endeavours from anyone, any group or any organisation or business that wishes to assist us freely in what we do... if you find yourself in agreement with all, most or any of this, please consider re posting this message far and wide, or contacting BHASSEXPLORE with your offer of help, or donating, either financially, materially, or with time on the internet or in any other way you may feel could help us all clear up this plastic trash... many thanks
